The Costume Studio at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK is looking for a First Hand. Come join our amazing team of Artists, Technicians and Designers working on Classical Ballet, Modern Dance, Opera, Musical Theatre and Drama. The First-hand will be responsible for assisting the cutter/draper or Costume Studio Manager to take the cutter's patterns and be the "first hands" on fabric. The First Hand is responsible for assisting the Cutter-Draper in the production of new costumes and refurbishment/alteration of existing costumes for the production season. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to: Collaborates and communicates effectively with all those involved in the costume construction process including supervisors, designers, assistant designers and workroom staff as well as guest artists. Assists Cutter-Draper in the creation of patterns. Cuts fabric based on patterns created for projects. Pattern layout and fabric cutting according to draper/tailor direction. Prep construction work for stitchers, apprentices and volunteers. Assists in actor measurements. Assist in fitting new and existing costumes and taking notes for the draper/tailor as needed. Prepares alterations from fittings for stitchers and interns. Supervision of stitchers and apprentices in the construction, finish work, and alterations on assigned costumes and maintain excellence of product. Helping undergraduate assistants and lab students with instructions on construction of the costumes. Stitches by hand or machine as needed.
