Position Summary

The Senior Director, Financial Aid will partner with the Assistant Vice President for Financial Aid (AVP), providing direct oversight of the daily operations of the Office of Financial Aid for New York University. This includes implementing policy, providing regular staff training, offering supportive guidance and effective supervision, ensuring a high level of customer service while adhering to compliance demands, providing support to the AVP, and working with the AVP to set the strategic direction and goals for the office. Under the direction of the AVP, represent the University and office by meeting with counterparts in other NYU offices, and committee membership. The Senior Director will collaborate and partner closely with other student services offices and schools of the University to successfully balance the customer service needs with University business goals.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree

Required Experience:
10+ years of progressively responsible professional level experience with financial aid administration including development and implementation of financial aid programs and large staff management or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Exceptional communication and active listening skills, including the ability to convey complex information to a variety of constituencies. Ability to interact effectively with varied internal and external constituencies, demonstrating excellent diplomacy and discretion. Proven ability to motivate staff and support the professional development of team members. Knowledge of need analyses and financial aid programs, both federal and state, including regulations and laws that govern financial aid programs. Knowledge of current best practices and trends in financial aid awarding practices and philosophies. Flexible and adaptable, able to work effectively and produce results in ambiguous situations. Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated track record of a collaborative spirit and relationship development. Analytical mindset. Ability to utilize information and data to inform strategic decision making. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Computer skills including Microsoft Office, report writing and SIS. Significant and increasingly complex leadership experience and administrative roles. Strong financial stewardship; previous oversight and experience with budget planning, financial analysis, and reporting.Use of Federal Student Aid (FSA) systems.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Related experience in a decentralized, complex higher education institution. Knowledge of PeopleSoft system. Earned NASFAA certifications.
